Braille Becomes Official

Helen Keller was a champion of the disabled and their rights within society.  This is not surprising as she herself was both blind and deaf.  A widely unknown secret is that Helen Keller is the reason Braille has become the universally adopted language of the blind. Until this point many had to learn several types of un-universalized alphabets to read all that was available to the blind.  It was her efforts that also convinced the Lions Club coin trick to permanently pledge their dedication to the blind and for the American Foundation for the Blind to establish special services for the blind-deaf.
