This is because birds in the wild use plenty of energy chasing down food and protecting their territory and their offspring. In captivity, they have all that energy locked up and they need some way of disposing it. Toys do just that.Make sure the toy is not small enough to be swallowed otherwise your bird may end up suffocating. If the pet bird is a parrot, it is well to include something chewable since parrots have that behavior of chewing on stuff.
