Responsible Dog Breeding

Responsible dog breeding can be a wonderful and rewarding experience for someone who is dedicated to producing quality offspring. Hunting dog breeders must be aware of the many possible genetic mutations that are common among larger dog breeds. One of the most common genetic problems among larger dog breeds is hip dysplasia. Responsible breeders will have their breeding dogs examined for hip dysplasia annually to prevent the chance of it being genetically passed to offspring. Breeders should have written proof that their breeding program has been certified by a professional to be free of this possibly crippling genetic mutation. Even with the certification there is still the possibility that puppies may still develop the condition. But with careful breeding and precautions, a breeder can effectively reduce the chance of hip dysplasia in his or her breeding program. Other problems that can plague hunting dog breeders are deafness, vision, heart, and skin conditions. These problems with careful evaluation of breeding animals and responsibility can also be reduced.
